Bogan Bird
Hear from Holly Trenaman on an update on a project funded in the June 2026 round of funding:
“Bogan Bird has been submitted to 25 film festivals around the world with the help of our grant funding from Culturebank, and local Wollongong sponsors who have supported our film. We also recently secured funding from Wollongong City Council's Small Cultural Grant to continue our distribution efforts.
Off the back of the success of screening at the London Australia Film Festival a few weeks ago, we are screening again in London on the 25th of August at the London Kino Open Screen night, and also at Far South Film Festival in Merimbula on the 15th of August. I love seeing how audiences react to this film, especially international audiences in the Q&As asking questions like 'Is the bogan bird real? Do you really have those in Australia?', for which the answer is yes, it's very much based off a real miner bird I met in Wollongong, and we've animated it to bring it to life. We hope our local regional story keeps transcending the globe, even if they can't quite understand our slang just yet, because I think it's really important for global audiences to see our authentic Australian culture on screen.
Our films Instagram account is @boganbird_, my Instagram is @hollywoodtrenaman, and my production company Hollywould Co is on Instagram too as @hollywouldco. We also just started a website with the help of the funds from Culturebank and Wollongong City Council too. The website is here: www.hollywould.co
